Emerse yourself...

Following several disruptions caused by the Galactic Empire, we must now leave Earth to strengthen the rebellion. Tell no one.

Above is the meeting location. Coincidentally, I had lived there for a good few years not that long ago so this had come in pretty handy. The building utilised used to be the printing factory for Daily Mail & Evening Standard and had only closed down a few years back. It is amazing to know it is being put to good use - little did I know how good. Never in a million years would I have guessed that I'd spend an evening roaming around this factory as a Rebel Refugee. (I have a thing for machines & tools).

The Rebellion is coming to an end, but I will still try my best to avoid spoilers and offer tips for those of you who have yet to leave Earth before it's too late!

"Heels must not be worn" says the invite. Ladies, this is the most precious piece of advice for the evening. It is a secret escape mission. There will be light running, and on a day like mine it was wet, muddy, and puddly. Even indoors there are plenty of grated surfaces. Sounds mighty fun doesn't it?

Each attendee is assigned an identity. Try your best to dress the part even if you don't buy the outfits from the Rebel-X store off Brick Lane (not maked in Earth language and will disappear once the mission is over). This actually sounds a lot easier than it sounds, for most characters white/sand/khaki colours work wonders. Think hobo chic and you'll fit right in. Unless you're Han or Leia; which then it's really a no brainer isn't it? There were people on my night who blatantly made no effort and went in human attire (reds, blues, most non-earthy colours would really stand out) which I thought really spoiled the atmosphere. I guess it was a Tuesday after all...?

I had my camera very openly hanging off my neck from the start and been at front of queues again and again. Then I got to 'immigration' to enter Tatooine and the immigration officer came to me and confiscated the camera right off of me. I carefully inspected all the signs and none said no photography! Even at the beginning when they inspected bags (my tiny one was inspected by "The Force" pahah) or at the gates where "all communication devices must be sealed in these silver bags" - noone had warned me. Anyway, feeling like a sad fool, I moped with my mighty strong cocktail in Cantina that was enough to floor me if I sat down with nibbles from the market stalls of Mos Eisley.

Side but very important piece of advice - remember your name. Not the one you use on Earth but your real Galactic one. Trust me. I witnessed a bewildered woman in human clothes being marched away by stormtroopers for not having her "papers".

The schedule gives you an hour before and after the screening to explore Mos Eisley and to find out what your secret tokens will get you. My bag of crystals gave me...curry seeds. Hang around town for reinactments of our favourite scenes, especially near Luke's Landspeeder. I will say no more! I will say though, brace yourself for some epic goosebumps while a life-size x-wing flies above you right before the screen room opens!

Now before you do enter the 'cinema', I would advice you kit yourself out with drinks and snacks for the duration. The seats are tight and every time someone needed something the entire row had to get up for that one person while everyone else behind huffs. I was one of them (huffing) by the 4th time within 30mins. If you are an indecisive one, sit on the left where you can roam as you please.

The movie playing was disappointing. We first had sound issues, then focus issues, it just kept coming. The women behind me didn't help, in full human clothes, calling scenes cheesy, and literally did not stop chatting like they were in their own living rooms the entire time, crunching the loudest foiled snacks from Earth. Then ended with "are they playing the entire movie?!" and left. Was it too nerdy of me to want to genuinely indulge in this re-watch of The Empire Strike Back?

Trivia aside, it was a fun night and definitely a bucket-list experience for all Starwars fans! The passion and effort behind the whole production is what hope & dreams are made of!

P.S. All photos here are from official Secret Cinema - my camera got confiscated remember? lols

The Boss of Me

Isn't this just the cutest outfit ever? I was invited to attend TG last weekend and this was my outfit for it - do we adore? It's my first latex outfit ever and I must say I simply love every part of it! The level of liberation was intimidating at first but eye opening and frankly exhilarating soon after! It was an experience I'll never forget and I'm going again next month hah!

I feel like the pieces that make this outfit is so fun that it could be taken apart for every-day mix and match. After all, wetlooks, PVC, and leather fashion are already so widely in mainstream. The glossy look and texture of latex is simply irreplaceable!

The Very Love Label

I was kindly invited by very.co.uk for an intimate preview of their in-house brand Love Label's SS13 Collection. The pieces are young, very fun, and really quite fresh. If anything, it makes me feel more nostalgic than ever for heat waves and a real proper spring/summer. We were greeted with canapés, champagne, and lots of cakes (mmm!). My favourite was the mini brownies with the raspberries behind the logo cupcakes - which I thought was too pretty to eat made in my absolute favourite blue!

With no less than 10 years experience each under the designer & the buyer's belt, the power team tells us all the cities they have travelled in search for these inspirations but confesses that it is not always this glamorous. I am proud to hear that they feel most inspired by Asia especially Korea and Hong Kong! They also spend a lot of time around Shanghai as 60% of their production is from the region. As resourceful as China is however, the duo has to source a lot of their embellishments from New Delhi en route of their return journey to pick up what they struggle to find in China. Nonetheless they still value home-grown products as some of their pieces are Made in England. In fact this Midi Dress on the mannequin that we have been sitting next to is made in Leicester:

Lynn, the designer, explained the three main concepts for the range; Mono (Black & White), Girlie Girl (Pastels and florals), and the Roller-Skater Girl (think California Girls). These translated very well, I thought, onto this new collection and my favourite is the California Girl. I think we will continue to lust over those fun pastels for a long time, especially when there is still no sign of summer for us.

We were asked to put three looks together before the event, a day casual, a night casual, and a night formal. They said to have fun and be as creative as possible and this is what I did with some of my favourite pieces on our favourite style icon - Barbie!

I was daydreaming about a nice spring day out in the park with a good book for my Day Casual Look. My Night Casual Look had those after work dinner & drinks with friends in mind. Then my Night Formal is for those va-va-vroom occasions. It was quite hard to pick just a few from the collection but here is a few more of the others I almost-picked. For the rest, you won't be holding your breath for too long as they will be available on very.co.uk next week! How hot and amazing are these??

GIVEAWAY

On another note. Love Label & I are teaming up to giveaway this gorgeous set of Nail Varnish exclusively to YNMS's followers! The metallic shimmering range of shades are perfect for every outfit and its packaging is as delicious as a box of chocolate. So whether you're a follower of my blog here, on Instagram or Twitter, get entering now!

Best of Luck!

Rihanna for River Island

Have you checked the collection out yet? It was officially released at 1am today! Riri herself was on Oxford Street last night as a premier to her work and I must say that dress on her is hot! I even want those cut out boots she was holding (on right)!

Rhianna at River Island's Oxford Street Flagship Store.

I have always been a fan of River Island, whose image is very ghetto chic with their blingy attitude and a tint of subtle englishness of edge. So when it was announced that Rihanna was doing a line for them, it only made sense! I don't think there is a more fitting brand than Riri for RI! She has always said how she loves British fashion since her reality TV show "Styled to Rock", which is great! It sure is time someone notice British Fashion once in a while! "Britain has the most fashionable kids in the world!" she exclaimed last night. Truth be told, I have never been a fan of Rihanna and frankly can't stand her music...but I kinda like her fashion ambassador side. I think she's brushed up well recently as well with her hair extensions and looking a lot well, cleaner. New image for the fashion world me thinks! Now a few of my fav pieces besides the dress she is already wearing!

Black & White Striped Bra Top £30

Thigh Split Sweat Skirt £40

Thigh Split Cami Maxi Dress £45

Cut out boots £95

I've just ordered them online! Have you?? xx

Welcome 2013!

Following my last post; my brief was to enjoy the new years eve countdown in a secret nightclub. I was asked to collect the tickets at 8:30 and the address was actually in the middle of Gerrard Street, mainstreet Chinatown. Under the paper printout logo of Vesper was the buzzer. The set up was like a house party. The crew unfriendly and the tickets took just too long. The "two private patios promising fireworks view" is enough to raise some doubtful eyebrows. To call it "Mansion" is rather far-fetched.

By the time I was trying to get into the 'club' at 00:40, a group of french speaking girls were hanging around the small doorway impatiently whilst the door was pulled shut by the door keeper. Chaos soon broke out as these girls start demanding entry whilst lots of guests are simultaneously coming out for air. A pair of these guests were shouting something about having called the police. The doorman and the french speaking girls were then in a full scale shouting match, literally throwing their heels down about money back and how they have paid too much to be kept waiting this long - they have been there for 15 minutes. The place was clearly a mess. I never gained entry.

VESPER London NYE - I'm afraid it is a massive NO from me!

I must say, if I had paid £300 entry for this place last night not knowing what I was getting into, I would be pretty angry. Deciding to make last minute plans for countdown was definitely the best idea of the year! Was lucky enough to end up in Parliament Square and said goodbye to the glorious year of the Olympics, Diamond Jubilee, and surviving the apocalypse.

It's a Brand New Year Everyone! x
